Ballard's Wellard Yamaha's ‘King Kirk' Hutton nabbed dual class podium finishes at the weekend at rounds five and six of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship held at Murray Bridge (SA).Hutton, 35, who is current Queensland Enduro Champion, mastered the challenging sand to finish second both days in the Championship E1 Class. The Kobble Creek (Moreton Bay Shire, Brisbane) resident now sits second in the class in the championship point's race and ninth Outright going into rounds seven and eight to be held at Cherrabah Resort near Warwick, Queensland, on August 15th and 16th. "This weekend went OK, it could have been better, but it took me a little while to come to terms with the sand," Hutton said. "I don't ride sand every often and spent several days training at a sand track in northern NSW before the event, but the sand in South Australia turned out to be very different. "I am happy with second in my class considering Ben Kearney, who won it both days, was riding really fast in the sand. "I'll be looking forward to the next rounds which are in Queensland, my home state. "Cherrabah Resort is an awesome venue for an AORC and I love the terrain, it's bull dust to loam and rocky and a lot more what I'm used to. "So hopefully I will be able to go one better in the next few rounds." Kirk's next Queensland competition will be the opening round of the Pony Express Series on July 5th.
