2009 Smarter than Smoking WA State Motocross Championships Round 4

July 4th and 5th will see the WA Motocross Championships head to the heart of the tourist mecca of the South West "Busselton". Southern Capes Motorcycle Club will host a double header split round with the Quad State Championship featuring the Womens State Championship on Saturday, backing it up with the WA State MX Championships on Sunday. A huge programme is scheduled across the weekend with over 60 races to be completed. GWN TV advertising across the regional areas surrounding Jindong attract extreme motorsports spectator crowds out to see some thrills and spills.

Pro Lite Racers sporting the 150cc 2 strokes- 250cc 4 strokes, will be the ones to watch, with Shane Murray holding the slimmest of leads for the series, Shane not yet 100% recovered from injury will see Josh Adams, Jake Zelich and Paul Humberston take full advantage on the Jindong circuit. Sunday's trackside spectator parking will be at a premium as the tipsters will have their work cut out to predict the days overall winner. Adams will go into this round after finishing in 2nd place in the National U19 class at AJS's rnd 6 held just a week ago. Jake Zelich finished overall 12th in the same class taking a very creditable 3rd place in race 2. Tim Bell also took a creditable 13th. Paul Humberston racked up his best points this seasons at the Nationals and took 11th in the National Pro Lites class. This class is filled with talent and no one has yet stepped up to dominate.

Pro Open class has seen over 50 entries compete so far in this years series. Louis Calvin after a successful top ten finish at Round 6 of the National MX titles holds 1st place in the WA Series by over 50 points. Daniel Woodward is the next best on 159pts, Paul Humberston on 151pts and Chris Errey on 144pts. Daniel Woodward will have home track advantage this round, and watching him down at Jindong on Sunday, he is definitely very smooth and fast, after leading Calvin at AJS in round 3 race 3, this match up will be the one to watch. Chris Errey's consistent results have put him in striking distance for an overall podium finish, while Canberra rider Matt Haskins will surely relish moving out of the WA deep sand tracks of the first half of the season.

Women's Motocross Features at Round 4 on the Saturday, attracting entries from across the state and as far away as New Zealand, the Women battle it out for round 1 points of their 3 round series. The girls will travel to Noble Falls on July 12th and then compete for their finale at the biggest Women's round in WA "The Queen of the Cross" Prize money is always mega in Southern Cross and attracts riders from across the country, but to win WA's Women's title, the girls will have to battle it out in all three rounds to truly take out the WA Crown.

Three Australian Junior Quad Champions '05 Josh Higson(WA), '06 Luke Gaisford(WA),'07 Mitch Van Vliet (Vic) for the first time will go head to head as Seniors at Round 4 of the WA State Quad MX Championships. All now graded nationally as Pro Quad Riders, will be racing against Australian Pro Quad Title holders from ‘05'06 Chris Brenton, '07 Anthony Yewers, '08 Ryan Lancaster. With the only big gun of Chad Mckay missing due to injury, this grid along with Taylor Milling Aus #6, Glen Ashworth, Coby Holland and Tom Stevens will be the largest Pro Quad grid fielded in Australia so far in 2009 and can truly can be labelled as one of Australia's best. Racing at one of WA's Premier Quad Tracks Jindong Park, competition will definitely be fierce and who ever takes top honours on the day will have to earn it. Current leader Ant Yewers holds a slim lead for the series 16pts in front of youngster Luke Gaisford, while Glen Ashworth holds 3rd place.
