Yamaha’s factory Supercross riders shone bright at the front of a world-class field of riders at tonight’s Perth Super X, with a Pro Open podium complimenting a stunning first-ever Supercross win for Serco Yamaha’s Jake Moss.
Moss won the Pro Lites showdown by a comfortable margin, handing Serco a deserved victory.
CDR Rockstar Yamaha riders Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd excelled in the ultra-competitive Pro Open class, with Marmont securing third place on the podium ahead of Boyd in fourth.
The debut series event proved a successful outing for YZ450F and YZ250F riders, with teams heading home to prepare for the next round in Adelaide in a fortnight.

A freight train of Yamaha riders has stormed home to secure the manufacturer three of the top five Pro Open positions in tonight’s first ever round of Super X, held at the Perth Motorplex.
Reigning motocross champions CDR Rockstar Yamaha led the way on the YZ450F, with Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd in strong form throughout the initial stages of competition.
Both riders progressed comfortably through practice and qualifying, with Marmont winning his heat and Boyd backing up with an equally-impressive second place.
Less than a week after the unveiling of his new team, MX RAD Yamaha’s Andrew McFarlane was also on the pace, snaring a top 5 heat finish and ensuring a strong ‘blue’ presence for the 20-lap final.
The trio of YZ450F riders carried this frontrunning form into the final, and were left to battle out the minor placings between themselves, with Chad Reed skipping away to the win ahead of Daniel Reardon.
Marmont was the first rider home for Yamaha, standing on the third step of the podium and reminding rival racers of his electric form in the recent motocross championship.
“Tonight was a solid start for me, I put in a good qualifying time and began to get more and more comfortable with the track in the conditions,” said Marmont.
“I got off to a bad start in my heat but kept pushing and despite stalling the bike I managed to reel in Ando (Craig Anderson) and catch him on the last lap.”
“I struggled with the start again in the final but was happy with my pace, I didn’t really let (Daniel) Reardon get away too much and after the race I was pretty angry with myself as I could have kept with him had I gotten into a rhythm a bit quicker.”
“It was a good result though, good points and it sets us up well for the next one in Adelaide.”
Teammate Boyd secured fourth place, and said he was happy to overcome a slow start in practice to be fighting for a podium place.
“It was a good day for me despite a few problems with the bike at the start, I couldn’t make the jumps and this put me back a little in terms of learning the track and its limits,” said Boyd.
“We moved forward quickly though and were comfortably within the top group through qualifying and the heat.”
“I was really pleased to grab the holeshot off the start but the guys just came right at me; a block pass stopped my momentum and from there I was playing catch up.”
“The track was tough and rutted, changing lap after lap, so I was happy to get through with a strong result and a fourth place.”
McFarlane secured fifth place behind Boyd, rounding out a solid evening for Yamaha.

Serco Yamaha’s Jake Moss scored his first ever Supercross win in front of a crowd of over 12,000 at the Perth Motorplex tonight, the host of the opening Super X event.
The YZ250F pilot had entered the event under an injury cloud, with a broken wrist threatening to cut short his campaign before it had even begun.
He chose to forge on and was rewarded, leading the way through the Pro Lites practice session, qualifying second and easily winning his heat.
After spending much of the year aboard in the AMA series, Moss had developed a feel for the size and style of the challenging new track, and was right at home.
He was the third-placed rider into the first turn in the final, but quickly muscled his way into first by the end of the opening lap.
Moss then took charge of the race, creating a comfortable gap and fending off a mid-race challenge from his brother Matt to cruise home for the win.
The only rider to record a sub 55-second lap, he was elated with the victory, citing it as a fantastic reward to the team for their continued support.
“It’s so good to be home and great to get that first Supercross win,” said Moss. “This one is for the team, they’ve been behind me for so much of my career and it’s good to pay them back.”
“At one stage I was considering returning home (to NSW) to have my wrist looked at, however that would’ve meant I couldn’t ride and I think I made the best decision.”
“I raced at about 80% and did what I needed to win, I’ll probably rest for a week and then get back into the training ahead of the next round in Adelaide.”
Serco Yamaha Team Principal Gavin Eales said the team were ecstatic with the result.
“This is Jake’s first ever Supercross win, what a way to do it,” said Eales.
“The team is absolutely pumped, everyone has worked very hard in the leadup to the season and we couldn’t have asked for a better result.”
Unfortunately, fellow Serco Yamaha teammate Ford Dale had his impressive run cut short, despite putting in a solid performance in the initial sessions.
Dale was the third qualifier in the seeded riders session, but crashed in his heat, unable to advance to the final because of a regulation ruling. He was ineligible for the Last Chance Qualifier, which put him on the sideline for the main event.
Robbie Marshall suffered two suspected broken ankles after a crash early on in the event. He was taken to hospital this evening for treatment.
Matt Ryan was the next best-placed Yamaha rider, in 14th place.
Team Seven Fly Yamaha racers Kirk Gibbs and Shaun Williamson both made the final, but struggled to get the results they had been chasing.
Gibbs finished 19th, with Williamson recording a DNF after completing just 11 of the 15 laps.
