CDR Rockstar Yamaha has kick-started its 2008 Super X campaign with frontrunning pace and a podium position at the opening round in Perth.

Fresh from wrapping up the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals, the team was riding a wave of momentum, with Jay Marmont and Cheyne Boyd in high spirits and at the peak of their fitness.

Both riders entered the round supremely confident, and it showed in the early sessions. Vastly experienced, Marmont and Boyd worked their way into the event, quickly coming to grips with the challenging track layout.

In the seeded practice session, Marmont claimed second place and Boyd took out third. Fourth and sixth respectively in qualifying was enough to carry the duo comfortably into the heat event.

Contesting separate heats, both riders were in their element, with Marmont taking an easy win and Boyd chasing home Chad Reed for an impressive second place.

The 20-lap final was an action-packed affair, with Boyd, who had been concentrating on his starts during training, shooting to a spectacular holeshot.

Positions were traded back and forth in the opening stages as riders muscled their way into position, with the CDR pairing holding their ground and quickly establishing a rhythm.

Marmont stayed with Daniel Reardon for much of the encounter, not allowing the gap to grow, but couldn't make back the advantage as the race approached its final laps.

In the end he greeted the chequered flag in third place, with Boyd close behind in fourth.

"Tonight was a solid start for me, I put in a good qualifying time and began to get more and more comfortable with the track in the conditions," said Marmont.

"I got off to a bad start in my heat but kept pushing and despite stalling the bike I managed to reel in Ando (Craig Anderson) and catch him on the last lap."

"I struggled with the start again in the final but was happy with my pace, I didn't really let (Daniel) Reardon get away too much and after the race I was pretty angry with myself as I could have kept with him had I gotten into a rhythm a bit quicker."

"It was a good result though, good points and it sets us up well for the next one in Adelaide."

Boyd said he was happy to overcome a slow start in practice to be fighting for a podium place.

"It was a good day for me despite a few problems with the bike at the start, I couldn't make the jumps and this put me back a little in terms of learning the track and its limits," said Boyd.

"We moved forward quickly though and were comfortably within the top group through qualifying and the heat."

"I was really pleased to grab the holeshot off the start but the guys just came right at me; a block pass stopped my momentum and from there I was playing catch up."

"The track was tough and rutted, changing lap after lap, so I was happy to get through with a strong result and a fourth place."

The team now returns home to begin preparation for the next round of Super X in Adelaide in just under a fortnight.
