A week long battle unfolded at Wanneroo Motorcycle Club in WA for the Australian Junior Motocross Championship with GMR Motorex KTM Racers bringing home titles in both the 125c and 250F class of 13-14 year old racers.  Meanwhile many KTM privateer riders of varied ages dominated in their respective classes for 50cc, 65cc and 125cc racing.

GMR Motorex KTM victories were served by Dylan Berwick in the 125cc class and Sam Duncanson in the 250F class.

Commenting on the racing GMR Motorex KTM Junior Race Team Manager, Glenn Macdonald said, “In the 250F class there was a huge controversy as Sam Duncanson entered the final round of racing sitting in a comfortable second position to Matthew Phillips.

“A crash for Phillips relegated him to the rear of the field while Duncanson rode an incredible race to take the lead. A race incident then resulted in a red flag situation with the race declared finished since 75 percent of it was complete, which secured Duncanson the race win. In addition to this, numerous riders were later penalized by the event stewards for failing to slow down in cautionary conditions. After a number of protests were managed, Duncanson was confirmed as the Championship winner.

“In the 125cc class, Duncanson sat six points behind team mate Dylan Berwick, who was leading the points charge going into the final.

“Sam Duncanson got a mid pack start having to chase the front runners down, while Dylan Berwick got out off the gate strong amongst the top three race leaders. A fourth place finish for Sam was not enough to maintain his points standing, yet he still collected a credible fourth place overall, while Dylan cleaned up to take the overall title.  This Championship class saw riders enter three races over the course of the week with Berwick collecting a 1-2-3 position sealing his position for first overall in the 13-14 years 125cc Championship.

“It was also a huge finale for the team in the 9-u12 years 85cc class with Jesse Dobson collecting third overall for the Championship, after a 4-7-2 result over three motos throughout the event.  First in this class was Kyle Webster with Joel Dinsdale second.

“While remaining team members missed out on a podium they still put in a commendable effort, with Jason Reed collecting a fourth place in both the 15 years 125cc class and 250F class, and Joben Baldwin placing seventh in the 12-14 years 85cc class.

“The whole team has done such an amazing job and we’re thankful to everyone who pitched in to help out.  Junior racing takes a lot of sponsorship support and investment by families and race teams.  It’s this commitment that keeps the sport alive and develops racing stars of the future.”

KTM also scored top honours in the 50cc division taking out the entire podium with Riley Dukes in first, Morgan McNicol in second and Austin Ridley in third.

Another three way victory came KTM’s way in the 65cc 9-u11 years class with Wade Carter claiming the win, Dylan Heaton in second and Conner Tierney in third.  Dominance for KTM continued in the 65cc 11-u13 years class for all three podium positions with Scott Kramer in first, Robbo Lovett in second and Jack Simpson in third.

In the 125cc 15 years class commendable results came from Daniel Shrimp on board a KTM who took first and Ashley Whisler also on a KTM in second.
